The Design Room, Inc. is a fully licensed Virginia Class A contractor, engaged in a limited number of custom residential projects each year.

Allen Harrison, Owner and President of The Design Room, grew up in Alexandria, VA, working for a small custom home-builder through his teens and early twenties. After running his own small business, finishing college, and spending several years on the west coast, Allen was awarded a scholarship and earned an MBA in Finance from the William E. Simon School in Rochester, NY, after which he spent several years managing projects for a national defense contractor. 

He returned to the building industry in 2004 as Vice President of a custom home-building firm in Fredericksburg, VA, where he was responsible for business operations, as well as the design of custom homes and additions using specialized CAD software for architects.  As Allen will tell you, there is nothing he would rather be doing.  He started The Design Room to pursue individualized projects where he could develop unique designs and complete projects in a trusting relationship with homeowners and buyers who desire quality, professionalism and a can-do attitude.

Maura Harrison is The Design Room's Creative Director. Maura has worked in the publishing industry for more than 20 years. An award-winning designer and photographer, Maura sees successful communication as the intersection of compelling visual design and clear information design. With a Master's Degree in English from George Mason University, Maura produces communication materials that are clean, crisp, and eye-catching.
